Discover the Hudson Bird Dogs Difference

Our History

At Hudson Bird Dogs, dogs aren’t just part of our business—they’re part of our way of life.

We live in the rural high country of Northern California, where hunting, family, and working dogs go hand-in-hand. Our lifestyle revolves around the land, the seasons, and the strong traditions of fieldwork and outdoor living. We hunt often—so does our extended family—and our dogs are right there with us, every step of the way.

We have grown up around dogs and have been training, raising, and working with them all our lives. Over the years, this passion evolved into a deep commitment to breeding and developing high-performance Labrador Retrievers—dogs with the drive, intelligence, and heart to excel in the field and be loyal companions at home.

We believe a truly great dog is one that’s both a fierce worker and a gentle soul—and that’s exactly what we aim to produce.

Training Philosophy

We believe that great dogs start with great breeding—but they grow into greatness through time, trust, and real-world experience. Our Labradors are bred for natural instinct, steady temperament, athleticism, and a true desire to work.

Whether you're looking for a capable gun dog, a competitive athlete, or a calm and reliable family companion, our dogs are built for purpose and heart.

Our training philosophy is grounded in respect, consistency, and a deep understanding of the dog’s natural drive. We use positive methods tailored to each dog’s individual strengths, building their confidence in the field and at home. Our goal is always to develop well-rounded, steady-minded dogs who thrive in real working situations—not just in theory.

Our Pups

Our puppies are in our home, as part of our family. From the very beginning, they are handled daily and gently introduced to the world using the Puppy Culture program—a proven method that supports early neurological development, confidence, and social skills. They're exposed to a variety of sounds, textures, people, and environments to help them grow into well-adjusted, eager-to-learn companions.

Every Hudson Bird Dog puppy comes with:

  • Full AKC registration

  • Microchip

  • Veterinary health check

  • Age-appropriate vaccinations

  • Deworming

  • Starter bag of premium puppy food

  • Health record and care guide

  • Lifetime support from us

We put a tremendous amount of care and attention into every litter to ensure your puppy has the best possible start—whether they're destined for the field, the competition circuit, or a family couch.

Trouble is a  60-pound female Black Labrador Retriever. She is the perfect blend of athleticism, intelligence, and companionship. A skilled hunting retriever, she is driven, focused, and eager to work, excelling in the field with her strong instincts, endurance, and precision. Despite her high energy during hunts, she has an excellent off-switch at home, settling in comfortably with her family. She adores children, is gentle and affectionate, and thrives on family time. Her friendly, social nature makes her great with other dogs, and she seamlessly transitions between being a hardworking retriever and a loving, loyal companion.
